| Grahamstown, the centre of the settler area, is known as the "city of the saints" because of the presence of an Anglican cathedral, the Methodist Commemoration Church (pictured), over 40 other churches dating from the era of evangelism, and several church schools. The war memorial commemorates men from the region who fell in the two world wars. |
