| In the lower end of town between the university and the township, new enterprises spring up as the settler presence is gradually displaced. They show the capacity of post-colonial society to absorb wide-ranging influences and cultures; in this image Christian, Muslim and Jewish (Solly Kramer's liquors whose sign can be seen in the corner) faiths are evidenced, alongside traditional and new-age beliefs. |
